I've had the creepin' crud for a few days now, and had an old-fashioned oral thermometer on the table by "my" end of the sofa. I left the room for, at most, a minute. About a half-hour later, I decided to check my temp. NO THERMOMETER ON THE TABLE! NO ROSI TO BE FOUND! I found her in my bedroom acting like she knew she'd done something wrong. When I looked around the room, I found the thermometer and it's case on the floor. I picked it up -- the bulb end and the mercury were gone! Is there another way to say I FREAKED!? I called the vet, who told me that ingestion should not cause any problems, but if the glass cut her mouth, the mercury can get into the bloodstream. I had to wait about 15 minutes for the hubs to get home to hold her so I could look in her mouth for any cuts. Fortunately, I didn't find any. We still need to watch her for a couple of days, and we need to do a very close poop patrol to make sure the bulb and any swallowed mercury come out...Oh, our kids can really put us through the wringer!

Very Scary. I can't imagine a glass thermometer *tasting* good.

To momofgracie: We can't imagine Cat Box Crunchies tasting too good either, though!

So far, so good -- no neurological symptoms, so we may be in the clear. Poop patrol reports sparkly poop (from the dog)! LOL

Wow, I never would have thought of that one. Had you eaten something right before taking your temp. Maybe that could cause it to smell tasty. Whatever the reason I hope all goes well.
Bright Blessings!
